Quick Start Guide

Using DeepTrawl is very much like using a web browser and search engine. You simply set DeepTrawl working from the first page of your website and from there it will scan all the pages of your site and list any problems it finds.

Quick Start Guide > Choose What To Trawl For

The first tab on the main DeepTrawl screen allows you to set which potential problems to trawl for. There are two main ways to select these options. Firstly you can select / deselect the options using the on / off button attached to each one.

DeepTrawl set to trawl for dead links (404 errors etc). The option to search for slow pages is off.

You can also use the trawl sensitivity toolbar button (shown to the right), which will show the popup menu illustrated below...

Three options are offered; these represent the different levels of trawl which may be performed.

Using the most extensive trawl finds all the problems DeepTrawl is capable of finding.

The general trawl is the default and finds only the problems considered to be quite severe, but omits other problems you may be interested in.

When you select a trawl level the on/off settings for the individual trawl types will be toggled on/off to reflect the level of trawl desired.

The Help link for a trawl type

To find out more about what each trawl type can do, select the Help link to the right of the trawl type description, this will provide you with more information on how the trawl type is designed to work.

The Settings link for a trawl type

You can also make extra settings to many trawl types using the Settings button, but for your first few uses of the program the defaults should be adequate.
