Quick Start Guide > Entering a starting URL

DeepTrawl allows you to trawl either pages found on the web, or stored on a local hard drive or network drive. Please follow the appropriate section below, depending on where your pages are located.

Entering a URL for a page on the web

To start trawling a site which is already live on the web, type the address of the first page of the site into the URL box. This might be something like:

Entering a URL for a page on your hard drive

The easiest way to start trawling one or more web pages stored on your local hard drive is to use the File button, located to the right of the URL box.

The File button

Clicking this button will launch a dialog, which will allow you to open an html file. This will then be inserted into the URL box ready for you to start trawling.

Remember to select the first page of your web site, usually called something like index.htm.
